BEN VANDERSPYKER

Our 2009 and 20th winner of the Canadian Fleet Maintenance Manager Award this year was Ben Vandespyker of the Active Transport Group based in Milton Ontario. Ben has served in the industry for 50 years and has been an active member of the Toronto ATS for many years.

With the Active group for the past 11 years Ben oversees 150+ power units and 480+ trailers and other associated equipment that he manages with a complete maintenance program spread over 3 locations; Ottawa, Milton & Mississauga. As required Ben also participates in the spec’ing and pricing of all new equipment.

Realizing the importance of our industries needs Ben has also been an active promoter of apprentices and the apprenticeship program. Active currently has 7 apprentices at different stages of completion and of course numerous graduates.

With strong communication and organizational skills Ben is an active supporter of youths in Minor Hockey and is a strong leader who leads by example and trust in others.
